The Providers Appreciate Scribes
During the winter months, the emergency department becomes particularly busy as the number of individuals with viral illnesses increases. This is especially true in the children’s hospital, where I spend a majority of my time as a scribe.
One particular night, there were patients lined up out the door with at least 25 patients waiting to be seen for a majority of the night. The physician I was working with was eager to get home on time, as his wife had just had a baby. I worked quickly to make sure all of my documentation was done accurately and efficiently so that he would be able to go home as soon as the charts were signed. He was so thrilled when he was able to walk out the door right at shift change and told me this would have never happened before scribes started working in the emergency department.
